They can also volunteer in local group work, charities, youth organizations, etc. Any communal activity is a way in which new couples can give back to the societies which support them, and fulfil their Christian duty. Of course, there are certain factors which can threaten such roles, like problems with communication between groups of people.
In today’s society, it is reasonably difficult to conform to the vows pledged in a service of matrimony. Although these vows may be intended to be followed through 100%, circumstances may change in which certain promises can not be fulfilled. One such promise, “for richer and for poor” can be hard to stick to, respectively. Many people are faced with poverty-like situations and (particularly if children are involved) a couple may want to let go of their partner in hopes of living a comfortable and secure life. People also find it very hard to live with and love someone who suffers from a serious mental or physical illness, for example, severe Bipolar disorder, or Alzheimer’s disease. A couple may fully intend to work together against such illnesses, but situations can escalate and contradict staying together “in sickness and in health”. Cases such as these can often result in divorce, which remains unrecognized and disapproved by the Roman Catholic Church.
In conclusion, the life of Christians today may be affected by the Catholic teachings, in that fulfilling one’s Christian duty seems a much more daunting and difficult task, given more modern scenarios. Most of the situations are reasonable in the eyes of man, but seemingly not in the eyes of the Church.
