If a relationship lacks an element of faithfulness, very little is likely to come from it. A couple must work together to strengthen their own and each other’s attributes. This will not always be easy – it can result in major frustration and upset, but in a long-term point of view, will add to the couples belief in one another.

Fidelity within a marriage is of the utmost importance. Not only does it involve a level of trust within the relationship, it also means that each partner offers themselves fully only to their spouse, “marriage is a life-long partnership of man and wife”. One who is not faithful in marriage not only contradicts the VI commandment, but leaves their marriage liable to total destruction. The Catholic Church views this act as a performance of adultery, a complete defiance of the teachings within the Church. Sex is seen as a celebration of love in the Catholic Church, and should therefore only be celebrated after marriage. It is believe that people should “keep away from fornication”, so as to save themselves for the time at which sex is expressed as a celebration of life-long commitment.

In the Catholic Church, it is also taught that marriage is a life-giving sacrament. “Every marriage act must remain open to the transmission of life” and responsible parenthood is of the utmost importance. A couple must accept that sex leaves conception a constant possibility, and should not be controlled artificially, as this would mark the prevention of creation. Instead, the Catholic Church encourages its followers to employ methods of natural family planning. A child should be raised as a Roman Catholic, and it should be ensured that he/she is introduced to a loving and supportive Christian community. Couples should always be aware of the environment in which they choose to raise their children. They should be sure to limit their family number as so they can sufficiently care for; this means that social an financial issues should all be carefully considered when starting a family.

After marriage, a couple are introduced to a community in which they give and receive support. It is important that this is a two way system, and that the couple are actively involved in their new community. Plenty of opportunities arise in which
