I was mainly influence by Stella Vine for this idea, yet I didn’t use bright colours and kept the writing simplistically printed. By using pencil I could create an image that clearly looks like the real person, and shows a real emotion on the face. My final design idea was a poster painted image of Wonder Woman on a mono-printed background of knickers. I used poster paint so that the subject looked like a cartoon yet was clearer than the printed background. I like the composition of this piece and how the feminine knickers contrast with the tough persona of Wonder Woman. The piece is feminist by showing that women are superheroes too, and by using knickers, it is clear that a man can not ‘take her place’. I chose to develop this into my final design because I think that it was the best representation of feminism, and took influence from the artists that I had studied.
Initially my final design consisted of three separate pieces, each with a female with an ironic slogan. I incorporated the use of lace/knickers and make up products (lipstick and lip liner) to symbolise the femininity of the work and to make a bold statement that promoted women. The first of the three pieces was a biro drawing of Wonder Woman and the quotation ‘I need a man’. I did this as a sexist piece showing that even the ultimate figure of independent women still relies on the male species. My second piece was a pencil self portrait with the question ‘Too Vain?’. This piece was questioning how a female might be represented and focussed more on stereotyping and the reaction that this picture might have on another person. The third piece was of a nude woman that looked very solemn and shy, with her head and down and her arm across her chest shielding her heart and breast. This woman was inspired by God’s creation of Eve and therefore is seemingly pure and innocent. I have an ironic statement of ‘SLUT’ branded onto the piece to contrast with the image. I used pencil and biro because I can create the most detail and more depth with these tools and I like
